AutoTutor: Learning Literacy with an Intelligent Tutoring Aid
Session 4: 1:00–3:00 PM, Zoom Room 1
Abstract
AutoTutor for Adult Reading Comprehension (AutoTutor-ARC) is an intelligent tutoring system that can supplement your reading literacy instructional program. The system utilizes conversational agents that weave questions into the flow of conversation for both training and assessing a student’s progress. AutoTutor-ARC also provides embedded formative tests that offer immediate feedback. As a student goes through a lesson, the lesson will adjust to fit the student’s performance. Lessons include topics like word and sentence meanings, narratives, informational texts, digital media, and persuasion. In this presentation, you will learn what conversational agents are and how they can help your students. You will also learn what AutoTutor looks like and view samples of the content. AutoTutor-ARC works with popular learning management systems and offers teachers’ the ability to track students’ progress across lessons. In this presentation, you can follow how to roster students, use AutoTutor-ARC, assign lessons, and monitor their progress. AutoTutor-ARC is the focus of ongoing research. This presentation will describe the ultimate goals of AutoTutor-ARC and how your participation can help build a reliable, free educational resource for adult literacy programs.
