How Can AI Help You Personalize ESL Lessons on Any Topic?

Session 2: 1:00pm-2:00pm (Friday March 01, 2024)

Description

Are you teaching English for a specific purpose such as IELCE, career pathways, or IET? Do you teach multi-level classes of adult learners who need formative assessments tailored to their level? Rancho Santiago Community College District has partnered with Pace AI to bring personalized, context-relevant English language learning to adult ESL education. Spun out of the Allen Institute for AI Research, Pace AI helps teachers generate personalized learning experiences tailored to different student levels. This session will highlight several key ways that AI can support adult ESL students in overcoming barriers—especially in hybrid and asynchronous learning models—by providing level appropriate Q&A support through a personal AI tutor (who also knows the student’s L1), generating skills-based exercises that are targeted at each student's level and unique pain points, and giving students the real-time feedback they need to improve.
