Teaching Writing and Integrating AI into the Process

Session 2: 1:00pm-2:00pm (Friday March 07, 2025)

Description

Artificial Intelligence has sent writing teachers into a crisis. What can they do to guarantee that their students are not using AI to cheat? As with the calculator or cell phone, some teachers have turned back to in-person, in-class, no technology-available solutions. But this does not prepare our students for a world in which the ethical use of AI is integral in their jobs. In this session, we will examine the challenge and share ways to integrate AI into the writing process while still practicing critical thinking. We will introduce ways to foster improved literacy skills and collaboration. The task looks overwhelming, but we will also share ways to use AI to help the teacher succeed. Participants will interact with the group, whether through chat or in person, sharing personal experiences and insights.
