Using Data to Inform Instruction for Academic Classes
Session 7: 1:15pm-2:15pm (Saturday March 08, 2025)
Description
The six principles of andragogy from Dr. Malcolm Knowles state that adult students are responsible for their learning but they need to know why they are being asked to complete their learning activities and how these activities will benefit them either in their everyday life or on the job. Additionally, instructors of adult students must take into consideration their students’ prior knowledge and experiences when deciding upon instructional activities. Data-informed instruction with regularly monitored learning gains and updated, individualized learning plans cover all six of Dr. Knowles’ andragogical principles of learning for adult students. In this session, Ms. Ruiz will share the steps in which she utilizes standards-based assessments for her in-person and remote learners to initially diagnose her students’ needs and then create personlized learning plans that accelerate her students towards their learning goals.
