Will Talk Meet Action? OER and OEP with IDEA + Belonging in Learning

Session 4: 4:00pm-5:00pm (Friday March 07, 2025)

Description

Open Educational Resources (OER) and Open Educational Pedagogies (OEP) can help teachers improve performance gaps and reduce failure/withdrawal rates (Winitzky-Stephens et.al., 2017), however, more attention is needed to ensure that culturally relevant content and pedagogy (Ladson-Billings, 1995) as well as digital inclusion and equity (Sturm et.al, 2021) are integrals parts of OER/OEP adoption. The Remixing of OER Textbooks using an Equity Lens (ROTEL) invites learners to contribute to their own learning by documenting their own voices and experiences in the non-disposable assignments that can be created with OER and reused as part of OEP. Many students from Adult Education programs may seek viable pathways to complete their AA degrees. While resistance to adopting OER/OEP by instructors remains an ongoing struggle, the available benefits of OER must be discussed. “Will talk meet Action?” - YES! Come engage and interact with OER/OEP & IDEA + Belonging in Learning in this session.
