Waitlist to Ready: Onboarding Class for Seamless Student Transition

Session 4: 4:00pm-5:00pm (Friday March 06, 2026)

Description

Adult schools may have long ESL waitlists. This session introduces an innovative “bridge class” model that turns wait time into meaningful learning. In this flexible, multilevel class, waitlisted students build digital skills, practice English aligned with core program units, and learn essential classroom routines for a smooth transition when space becomes available. Participants will explore how the model boosts retention, accelerates language development, and strengthens digital literacy before students enter their main class. Attendees will learn how to design routines, choose tech tools, align lessons with existing curriculum, and support mixed-level learners. They will review sample activities, discuss challenges, and share strategies. The presenter will offer practical next steps, including staffing ideas and ways to track readiness, so participants leave prepared to launch or refine a bridge class.
