UDL for Adult ESL and Beyond

Session 3: 2:15pm-3:45pm (Friday March 06, 2026)

Description

This session explores how the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework can be effectively implemented in adult education classrooms. While UDL is often associated with supporting learners with disabilities, its broader value lies in intentionally designing learning environments where all adult learners can succeed. Grounded in CAST’s three UDL principles, this presentation draws on insights from Transform Your Teaching with Universal Design for Learning by Jennifer L. Pusateri and the LINCS Universal Design for Learning and Adult Education course. The presenter will share practical, classroom-tested strategies and engaging activities aligned with the UDL framework. Participants will receive a clear overview of UDL, engage in reflection and discussion, and leave with sample activities and a curated toolkit for applying UDL strategies in both face-to-face and online adult learning environments.
