Integrating Technology to Support Beginning Literacy in Adult ESL
Session 6: 10:30am-12:00pm (Saturday March 07, 2026)
Description
In this 90-minute interactive online session, participants will experience a follow-along lesson that models a clear instructional sequence from teacher-led instruction to guided practice and independent learner practice. Using familiar tools such as Google maps, department stores websites, and educational platforms such as Wordwall, the session demonstrates how technology can be used to reinforce instruction of grammar, reading, writing and conversation through real life, functional tasks. The session emphasizes clear routines and scaffolded transitions that support low-beginner adult learners in building confidence, accuracy and independence – without replacing meaningful classroom interaction or essential foundational literacy skills. This session aligns with CASAS competencies by supporting foundational reading, and writing skills, functional life skills and the integration of digital literacy into adult ESL instruction.
