21st Century 1-room schoolhouse: onboarding in a mixed-level classroom.

Session 4: 4:00pm-5:00pm (Friday March 06, 2026)

Description

By the end of this workshop, participants will gain an understanding of how this HSE teacher matriculates and integrates adult learners with the aid of technological resources. This session highlights how a HyFlex HSE classroom model can transform access and equity for adult learners who face barriers such as work schedules, childcare responsibilities, or limited digital literacy. By combining in-person and online learning through Canvas and Aztec Software, one instructor built an inclusive, mixed-level HSE class where ABE and ASE learners thrive together. Participants will explore how flexible delivery, and differentiated instruction, close opportunity gaps for learners historically underrepresented in high school completion programs. The presenter will share practical examples, and digital strategies to help programs expand equity and access without greatly increasing staff or resources.
