Using Digital Tools to Assess Learning in HyFlex Adult Education
Session 2: 1:00pm-2:00pm (Friday March 06, 2026)
Description
Adult education instructors serving ESL, Adult Basic Education (ABE), and workforce learners are increasingly teaching in HyFlex environments where students participate in person, online, or asynchronously. This session focuses on practical, easy-to-use online apps and websites that support meaningful assessment and learner engagement across all instructional modalities. Participants will explore tools such as Google Forms, Kahoot, Quizizz, Padlet, Mentimeter, and Nearpod and learn how these platforms can be used for formative and summative assessment in ESL, ABE, and workforce education settings. The session will emphasize low-stakes assessment, language-supportive features, mobile accessibility, and strategies for gathering real-time feedback from diverse adult learners. Through live demonstrations and hands-on participation, attendees will experience these tools from a learner’s perspective and leave with concrete ideas for implementing them in HyFlex adult education classrooms.
